    Save the Dates!

The 8th Annual Symposium on Poverty and Economic Security will be held on April 2 & 3, 2014 in the Well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

April 2 will feature keynote speaker Sister Simone Campbell, the Executive Director of NETWORK, a Catholic organization dedicated to social and economic justice. In 2010, Sister Simone wrote the acclaimed “nuns’ letter” supporting health care reform and launched the famous Nuns on the Bus tour. The morning of April 3 will be the kick-off of the New York State Community Action From Poverty to Opportunity Tour 2014 while the afternoon will provide the opportunity to visit legislators. Join your colleagues to explore issues affecting low-income families, learn about the work being done to combat poverty, and help launch the 2014 Poverty Tour.

In 2014, The New York State  Community Action Association will undertake a statewide public education and outreach effort to confront myths and misconceptions about poverty and to highlight the successful anti-poverty programs and community and family services provided by Community Action Agencies (CAAs).  NYSCAA and its community and statewide partners will convene public awareness events, host training and technical assistance programs, and coordinate media outreach efforts to create a coordinated, statewide effort to promote public dialogue and   increase knowledge about poverty and Community Action.

We recently held a webinar on the tour, giving an overview and explaining how Community Action Agencies can become involved. Click on the links below to view the presentation and recording.
