Thank you for your interest in the NYSCAA/NYSWDA Annual Professional Development Conference.

Registration is now closed. See you at the Conference!

The conference this year will include a special seminar called “Strengths Finder,” as well as workshops on secondary trauma and providing trauma-informed care, sessions conducted by Jarle Crocker of the National Community Action PartnershipPat Standish of the Community Action Angels and a joint NYSCAA/NYSWDA session.

At the heart of the “Strengths Finder” seminar is the internet-based "Clifton Strengths Finder," an online personal assessment test that outlines the user's strengths. This assessment, which you will complete before the Conference if you wish to participate in this Seminar, is based on the book “Strengths Finder 2.0” by Tom Rath. The book focuses on building strengths rather than focusing on weaknesses. Here is a link for the book Strength Finders Workbook.

The theory behind the Strengths Finder process is that everyone possesses fixed universal personal-character attributes, defined by the authors as "talent themes," which contribute to an individual's tendency to develop certain skills and excel in in certain fields while being unable to sustain high levels of effectiveness in other fields.

By identifying an individual’s strength, it is then possible to provide the best suitable position for an employee and help that individual develop the required skills and proficiency to do their job, helping to reduce turnover, improve employee morale and enhance the organization's overall performance

In order to participate in the Strengths Finders Seminar, you will need to select this option when you register. You will also need to purchase the workbook and do some “homework” in advance. There is information on the workbook as part of the registration process for the seminar including a link to a site where you may purchase the book. If you are planning to participate in the Strengths Finder Seminar, please be sure you indicate that as you register for the conference.

The Conference will also include our annual NYSCAA/NYSWDA dinner, which will be held at the Hilton Albany on Lodge St. At the dinner, you will have an opportunity to see old and new friends and colleagues, and share the always heartwarming experience of the annual Community Action Awards. And we are pleased to announce that David Bradley from the National Community Action Foundation will be joining us! The Conference promises to be an informative and enjoyable event and we look forward to seeing you there.
